LOCAL BUSINESS

Employers are discovering that with a little help, workers with intellectual and developmental disabilities can take on a wide array of jobs and many companies are discovering that there can be a number of rewards. This underutilized population of potential employees has proven to be a positive influence on co-workers, customers, the community and a company’s bottom line. Companies hiring people with IDD are rewarded with highly motivated employees who are excited about coming to work every day, demonstrating an inclusive and diverse culture that’s attractive to critical talent pools, and improving customer satisfaction. Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are dependable, engaged, motivated, have great attention to work quality, and high productivity.

As with all employees, it’s important to make a good match between the person and the job. With careful matches and usually minor accommodations in the workplace, businesses have reported high attendance and retention as well as no increase in accident rates among employees with intellectual disabilities. This website provides a list of resources that may help you understand the process and explore the benefits to hiring workers with IDD.
